But I did recognize that my meaty offerings of beef and bacon might not be to everyone’s fancy, this pancake might just be the closest I can get to making a dessert from the series. Besides, it’s fun to end this Moveable Feast on a sweet note.

By the time you reach the 62nd volume of Oishinbo, you probably won’t be surprised in seeing the Yamaokas (they’ve been married by then!) picking up another lost kid in the street. It’s a common theme in this series and this time, Takako was out searching for her mother.

While the adults discussed the mother’s difficulties in her household, Takako spends some time with Haru and cooks up an awesome pancake that Takako’s grandmother taught her.

Takako’s French Pancake (Oishinbo Vol. 62)

(This recipe requires that you have already made your own pancake)

1 cup of milk

1 egg

2 tablespoons of sugar (you can omit this for obvious reasons later!)

1 cup of maple syrup or all the syrup you want in your life (if you’re not a maple syrup fan, use honey!)

All the butter you need for your soul

So how do we make this awesome pancake?

Once you’ve cooked your usual pancake, mix the milk and egg in a bowl. You can add the sugar here if you wish.

In a plate, place the pancake and pour the maple syrup on top and let it soak in the maple syrup for 10 minutes

After 10 minutes, soak the pancake in the milk and egg batter.

In the same pan where you cooked your pancake, but a slab of butter.

Fry the soaked pancake on the pan until it’s glistening with butter!

The result of this dish was a fantastic maple oozing French Pancake. Â I have a preference for honey because it has a more balanced sweetness to maple syrup. When I made this, the insides were really gushing out with syrupy goodness that I believe I had a dessert coma afterwards.

This isn’t quite a breakfast dish.
